Types and Number of Hinges in Doors – Episode 6 of the “Your DRE” Series

Although at first glance they may seem to be merely a technical detail, hinges have a huge impact on the appearance, functionality and durability of interior doors. In episode 6 of the “Twoje DRE” series, we explain what types of hinges are used in doors and how many hinges are necessary for the leaf to work properly.

In rebated doors, barrel hinges are used. They are visible both on the leaf and on the frame and are an aesthetic element of the door. In rebate-free doors, however, concealed hinges are used, which remain invisible when the leaf is closed and only become apparent once it is opened. This solution is ideal for modern, minimalist interiors.

The standard colour of both barrel and concealed hinges is semi-matt silver. In the case of barrel hinges, black and white versions are also available, while concealed hinges can also be chosen in black, white and semi-matt gold.

As for the number of hinges, the absolute minimum is two pieces – regardless of whether we are talking about rebated or rebate-free doors. In situations where the leaf is taller, wider or has a special construction, three hinges are used to ensure stability and comfort of use.
