Behind the scenes of creating the Supreme collection

An elegant line and four unique collections that can be matched to interiors in any style. Supreme is a combination of our experience in interior door manufacturing with the unique style of designer Krzysztof Miruć. Today we ask how the line was created, where he drew inspiration from, and which interior each collection suits.

Where did the idea to create the Supreme line and collaborate with DRE come from?

I have been associated with the DRE brand for a long time, mainly due to the television programs I host in which DRE door leaves appear. At some point we came up with the idea to combine our ideas and concepts. To create a joint project between a door manufacturer and a person involved in creating spaces. Our goal was to change the way people think about doors as a partition between one room and another. We wanted the door leaves designed together to become a decorative element, both when they are open and closed.

Where did you draw inspiration from for the individual collections in the Supreme line?

The main inspiration that was to connect all the collections was the city. When designing the individual collections, I broke down the idea of the city into several factors – from their topography to architecture. All these collections, in addition to the graphic and decorative element, also have names referring to districts – SOHO, HAMPTON, CITY or SOL.

 

The collection SOHO references loft architecture, which is currently undergoing extensive revitalization. Post-industrial buildings are characterized by geometric divisions, black decorative elements, verticality and geometry. I took these elements from the post-industrial parts of the city and translated them onto door leaves.

The collection CITY features simple, vertical divisions referencing tall London buildings. The leaf in the collection also has an unusual height of 230 cm. I wanted the door to be very tall, and even optically stretched further, which is why vertical inlays were used. Here we can play with the colors of the door leaves, matte and glossy surfaces.

When designing the collection SOL I focused on the layout of streets in cities. When we look at the plan of the largest cities, we notice their graphic character. Some streets are diagonal, others converge crosswise. This is a ready-made decorative element that we transferred onto the plane of the door in the form of elegant milling.

The line HAMPTON is a nod toward old architecture. In the historic buildings of cities, everyone feels good. Its universal and timeless character inspired me to design a door leaf with panels. The Hampton door is characterized by deep chiaroscuro, nice proportions and a timeless color palette that will also work well in modern interiors.

Could you suggest which style to match the individual collections from the Supreme line with?

The collections are dedicated to specific styles, but at the same time they are universal enough that you can play with them. The basic assumption was to match SOHO to loft interiors, HAMPTON to classic interiors, CITY to modern interiors, and SOL to neutral interiors, where the door leaf is not the main decorative element.

 

However, I encourage everyone to treat doors as a decorative element and to have fun choosing them. For a modern interior, we can choose, for example, classic doors, but in black. In classic interiors, white or black doors from the CITY collection may appear, which have inlays in the color of our accessories in shades of copper, silver, or gold. SOHO doors can also be placed in a classic interior. Their geometry is very universal and can be more subdued or contrasting.

We are mainly talking about apartments and houses. Do you think these collections could also be used in public spaces?

Absolutely yes, because a long space, for example a hotel corridor with many doors from these collections, will create an interesting space. It will not be a boring and uninteresting interior. An empty space with SOHO doors will become a fully arranged space, very geometric and expressive. The same space with SOL doors will be neutral, simple, practically invisible, and ready for the next stage of arrangement. When we use HAMPTON doors, the space will gain elegance and move closer to classic. If we install white doors with black glazing and inlays, the interior will become more modern. With the door leaves alone, we can change the character of the space.

 

Doors are not just appearance. They are also technology that affects their durability and functionality. What solutions have been used in the Supreme line?

All decorative elements are connected with technology. We spent a lot of time selecting materials and developing the production technology for these doors. In the SOHO collection, tempered glass glazing is a structural element of the door leaf. It is a decorative element, but contrary to appearances, it is very much connected with the door construction and the form of their production. In addition, the doors from our line are covered with MAT foil, which not only gives the doors elegance but also protects them from scratches and stains and makes cleaning easier.

The creative process is a constant brainstorm, discussions, and changes. How do you remember the conceptual work on the Supreme line?

Together with DRE, we have drawn a great many door leaves, full drawers of projects not yet realized. Our biggest problem was choosing models for individual collections. Prototypes were created, we modified them to some extent, and then further sketches were created for the already adjusted models. I hope that someday these collections will grow, because we really have a great many ideas, and we want to have a few surprises for our customers.

 

So can we expect more new products?

Of course! While drawing subsequent door leaves, we identified certain procedures and forms of production over the long term. In the near future, elements that harmonize with the existing collections are to appear. The models will have sisters and brothers, and new family members will appear in the collections.

Individual collections have their own unique décors, and for each of them you also chose dedicated handles. Please say a few words about these less obvious, though equally important, decorative elements.

Details, details, and once again details. The door leaf itself is actually a simple element, which is why details are so important. We paid great attention to proportions, the way they are made, and matching the inlays with the surface of the door leaf. The very edge where the two materials meet is unique. Add to that hidden hinges and handles, which we matched to the appropriate leaves. They are dedicated to individual doors. In the SOHO collection, it is openwork; in the CITY version, the handles are matched to the color of the inlay, and they are a subtle detail that is meant to create a whole. All so that the doors are functional and please the eye.
